English Literature Subject Conference 2016

On Wednesday 16th November, 32 Year 11 students were invited to Northorpe Hall to work on examination technique for their English Literature course with a specific focus on the skills that they will need to demonstrate to answer the An Inspector Calls question effectively.

The session lasted all morning and students were asked to consider the key words that they will face in exam questions and what this will mean in terms of the content of their answer. They were also asked to assess and evaluate some sample answers to exam-style questions where they were required to identify the strengths within an answer that would gain credit in an examination and the main ‘pitfalls’ to avoid.

To conclude the session, students were asked to put all of these skills into practice and complete an examination answer to the timeframe available to them in the final exam.

As usual with these events, the working atmosphere was extremely positive and the students invited worked hard through the range of tasks set. It is hoped that this session will give students an extra boost of confidence to enable them to reach their target grade for the English Literature course.
