Everything we do at Castle Hall Academy is focussed on learning.
Our Teaching and Learning Agreement sets out high expectations for the planning, delivery and assessment of teaching activities.
We are proud of the “Curriculum with Integrity” we have established over many years. Most of our courses lead to formal academic GCSE qualifications.
Our aim is to provide a curriculum experience which prepares all students for the next steps in their education or employment.
Castle Hall Academy regularly has one of the highest scores among local schools for the English Baccalaureate – a measure of how many students achieve grade A* to C in five key subjects: English, Maths, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and either History or Geography.
We have seen increased interest in, and more offers to, our students from some very competitive post-16 colleges and sixth forms, based on the hard work of our students, and the reputation of our curriculum offer.
A series of Aspire Days are held throughout the year. These days involve students, staff and guest speakers working together in different ways to deliver Citizenship, Careers, Enterprise and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. Our creative approach to the delivery means that these are days with a real buzz, developing our students in the widest sense.
Our ethos creates an excellent environment for learning and we ensure that we take students’ views into account through our active Student Council.
We keep our buildings and site well maintained and are delighted that nearly £500,000 of government funding will help us make further improvements.
Information Technology plays a major role in facilitating learning with networked computers in every classroom. All teaching rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards. Students have monitored and filtered access to the internet. The Academy has four modern, well-equipped ICT suites.
The Frog Learning Platform enables staff and students to engage in learning activities within and beyond the Academy. Students have access to homework and coursework assignments.
The Academy has a superb Learning Resource Centre which houses an excellent library and audio-visual collection.
Our ‘Behaviour for Learning’ approach ensures that disruption of learning through poor behaviour is never tolerated. We value the partnership of parents in making sure that our reputation for excellent standards of behaviour is maintained.
